The building at 525 Colorado Blvd. in Glendale which housed the Frank Kurtis Company appeared this way in 1992. Kurtis started the organization in 1956 after leaving Kurtis-Kraft on Alger Street..

Special "start cart" built by Frank Kurtis for SR-71 and A-12 aircraft beginning in 1963 after he was recuited by government. Kurtis then stopped building Indy cars. Powered by twin Buick engines, the unit was required to start the planes which were the fastest in the world.

Sports Illustrated ran this diagram of the accident in June 13th, 1955 issue. Magazine was critical of how fast the cars had become and why what happened to Vukovich would happen again if the drivers continued to drive "on ice".
