Films of 1955 Indianapolis 500 is Available on DVD A DVD of the 1955 Indianapolis "500" is now available through a company that provides videos of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Races from the 1940s through the '60s. Doak Ewing, owner of Rare Sportsfilms of Naperville, Illinois, has spent years transferring the historical 16mm Indianapolis racing films to digital video using the finest equipment available. Included on the DVD is the infamous Dynamic Films color production entitled "The Unforgettable 500" along with a rare and lesser known black and white title called "The '55 500 by T.O.P. Productions. The 1955 film produced by Dynamic Films is considered the best version of all those made of the 1955 race and contains three views of the accident. DVD provides nearly twice the screen resolution of regular VHS tape and the thereby keeps the DVD as close to the source material as possible. Rare Sportsfilms also offers "The "Unforgettable 500" on VHS. Vukovich's two back-to-back Indy wins in 1953 and '54 are also available on DVD.
